pearl harbor

The monument at Pearl Harbor was very interesting and worth the trip.  We only did the tour of the USS Arizona Monument, but there are lots of things to see and read in the park before you go.  Below is the actual anchor taken from the ship.
There is a pedestal here for each ship lost in WWII.
I have seen this monument so many times, but didn't quite understand what it was all about until I actually stood in it.  The white structure lays perpendicular to the ship which is sunk right beneath it.  The rusty metal sticking out of the ocean is what is left of the larger smoke stack. Inside you can view some of the ship through this opening:

Here is the list of names of all those sailors from the ship who died in the battle.
Apparently there were more groups of brothers on the Arizona than any other ship in the Navy at the time.  There were some named Woods, which is my mom's maiden name.
